About Me
I am a Falcon Heights resident of 35 years, scientist, mother, grandmother, outdoor adventurer and conservationist, gardener, sourdough baker, and voracious reader.
I made Falcon Heights my home because of its good schools and libraries, beautiful parks and safe, tree-lined streets where kids ride their bikes and neighbors meet. This is the community I seek to serve as a member of the Falcon Heights City Council.
I currently serve on the Environment Commission and the State Fair Task Force and previously on the Community Engagement Commission. I participated in community conversations on policing, the Corridor Development Study, and recently on the Climate Action Team, producing the Climate Action Plan. My continued sevice on the board of the Friends of the Philando Castile Peace Garden seeks to maintain the Peace Garden as a beautiful, healing and contemplative space and as a resource for building bridges across our community. Alongside residents, Falcon Heights staff, Council Members, and community members, my work has helped improve safety in our city and provided strong framework for moving forward together in a sustainable, equitable future.
From these experiences, I developed the following core values:
* I am data-driven with a heart. In my career as a professor in evolution and ecology at the University of Minnesota, I honed a key skill that will serve me well as a Council Member – putting together information and resources to address complex problems that may not have an easy answer.
* I work tirelessly for the greater good. I am well-prepared and bring my focus, experience, and preparation to every meeting. When tackling difficult issues such as policing, development, or the impacts of climate change, I want to hear from all residents even though we may not agree.
* I am confident. Together, we can build a sustainable and equitable community that is fiscally sound, using tax and assessment resources responsibly and creating new non-tax funding sources.
